We decided to let Jerry try Raoul while the brisket finished cooking. I saddled him up, and he was calm as a daisy. But when I pulled the girth tight and let him go on the lunge line, his bucking and leaping quickly got all the cowboys ready for action. Weldon took the lunge line and begged to ride him.

"Nope," said Jerry, "I know how you like to ride the bad ones, Weldon, but we don't WANT him to buck. Let Gina help me show you how we do it now." YES! Hasn't Jerry come a long way as a horse trainer? He messed with the colt a bit and let Raoul get to know him.

Then he got Gina to help him work with the grey. Soon Jerry slowly swung up gently. The nervous colt let Gina lead him with Jerry up.

Soon Jerry was riding him alone. It's not so hard if the green one isn't working in fear. Raoul did fine, and looked good under Mr. Hilligoss.

Everybody saddled up for one more ride, and we escorted Jerry and Raoul for a few miles so the colt could get the feel of a bit of real work under saddle. By the time we got back, that brisket was just right. We nearly fought over those brisket roasted carrots! Weldon carved the meat, and did we ever dig in!
Saturday's brisket was well done, but dee-licious

Saturday night was for talking, sharing a warm campfire and the company of good friends. Bryant Rickman dropped by camp and swapped tales.

The temperature dropped, and we got closer to the blaze. The guys located a big pine stump that kept us chatting and relatively warm for hours.

When we finally hit the blankets, a warm place was pretty hard to come by. Man, was I cold! I was shivering so hard, I'll bet I shook the trailer. But Sunday dawned fair, and it warmed up quickly. Time to hit the saddle.
