THE HORSE OF THE AMERICAS
AWARDS PROGRAM

The Horse of the Americas Awards Program is designed to promote and acknowledge the accomplishments of the HOA MEMBERS and their HOA registered Colonial Spanish Horses through shows, trail competitions, parades, farm and ranch work and various horse activities. Remember YOU and your HORSE must be a registered member of the Horse of the Americas while you are accumulating points.

CAROL STONE AMBASSADOR AWARD
Awarded to the HOA MEMBER who accumulates the most points in the PROMOTION category during the year from September 1st to August 31st. This is an annual award given in loving memory of Carol Stone a long time friend and lover of the Colonial Spanish Horses and their owners.
POINTS FOR CAROL STONE AWARD
Promotion to the Public (local) 5 points(day). Example: Schools, Libraries, Youth Groups, Parages, etc.
Promotion to the Public (state or national) 10 points(day). Example: Expos, Fairs, Festivals.
News Article (local or area) 10 points
News Article (national) 15 points
Media Advertising (promotes HOA) 1 point. Example: Ads, Flyers, Brochures for Expos,
Each photo in the article 1 point.

ACCUMULATIVE AWARDS
Points earned may be carried over into consecutive years until required number of points are reached.

Buckaroo Award: Awarded to the HOA Member 18 years and under, for earning 50 points in any of the accepted categories. Points may be earned on different horses, but horse(s) must be HOA registered.

Sundance Award: Awarded to the HOA registered horse for earning 300 points from any of the accepted catagories.

Legends Awards:Awarded to the HOA registered horse earning 500 points in a SPECIFIC catagory.

1. Legends in Show (show & sport)
2. Legends in Distance (competitive/endurance)
3. Legends in Pleasure Trail (ride & drive)
4. Legends in Time (performance)
5. Legends in Farm & Ranch Work (on the farm & competitive work)

Caballos de Corazon:Awarded to the HOA registered horse earning 1000 points. Points accepted from all categories.

ANNUAL AWARDS
Awarded each year, for the MOST points accumulated by a HOA registered HORSE from September 1st to August 31st.

Pleasure Riding Trail Horse of the Year: Awarded for the MOST points earned while being ridden on the trail during pleasure or organized rides.

Pleasure Driven Trail Horse of the Year: Awarded for the MOST points earned while being driven on the trail during pleasure or organized drives.

Sport Horse of the Year:Awarded for the MOST points earned during HORSE SHOWS in all English disciplines includes jumping, dressage, hunt seat, driving.

Show Horse of the Year: Awarded for the MOST points earned during HORSE SHOWS. (Halter, pleasure, and western classes, does not include sport horse or timed events.)

Performance Horse of the Year: Awarded for the MOST points earned in timed events during HORSE SHOWS.

Farm and Ranch Work Horse of the Year Awarded for the MOST points earned in Farm and Ranch work on a farm or ranch.

Farm and Ranch Work Horse of the Year in Competition. Awarded for the MOST points earned in competition ranchwork such as team penning, reining, cutting, rodeos, mounted shooting, etc.

Points for Horse Awards

  • Riding Lessons (1 hour min.) 1 point per hour (4-H, FFA, clinics, private or group lessons)
  • Camping Trips (per day) 2 points
  • Ranch Work (3 hours = 1/2 day) 3 points
  • Participation in pleasure and organized trail ride/drive (1 hour min.) 1 point per hour
  • Placing in Show and Timed Events
    5 or more in class 1st = 6pts., 2nd = 5pts., 3rd = 4pts., 4th = 3pts., 5th = 2pts., 6th = 1pt.
    4 or less in class 1st = 4pts., 2nd = 3pts., 3rd = 2pts., 4th = 1pt.
    (point system applies to show, timed, and sport awards)
    Buckaroo Award 5 points
    Sundance Award 10 points
    Legends Award 20 poins

    ANNUAL AWARDS
    Awarded each year for the MOST points accumulated by a HOA registered HORSE during the CALENDAR YEAR, January 1st to December 31st. Points due on January 15th.

    Competitive Trail Horse of the Year: Awarded for points earned during Competitive Trail Rides.

    Endurance Trail Horse of the Year:Awarded for points earned during Endurance Trail Rides.

    Points will accumulate as follows.

    Driving Organizations: Competitive Trail Open Novice CP Limited Dist.

    General Formula for Actual Mileage = .2 points per mile or (multiply .2 x mileage)

    If you are unsure where to apply your points, please call with your questions, Kathy -1-319-435-2012.
    Any points submitted that do not fall into a listed category will be placed into the closest award.
    Remember you may be able to use various points in several different categories.
    For example: Buckaroos can use their trail points towards teh Buckaroo Award, and then use them towards a trail award for each horse.
    Adults can use promotion points towards Sundance Awards.
    All points earned can be applied towards Caballos de Corazon.
    Please make sure you fill out a different point sheet for each award you are working towards.
    When sending in your points sheets please include a photo of you and your horse if possible. The awards committee is in the process of creating an awards scrapbook and we would love to have your photo included. This historical book will be available at each of the annual meetings for all the members to enjoy.
