After ten years of
uncertainity the Abaco Barb has a certain future.
The elegant Spanish beauty and heritage is obvious in the newest strain accepted into the Horse of the Americas, the Abaco Barb. These horses are from the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas. Once struggling to survive they now have a new hope thanks to those who saw their unique history and genetics. DNA tests have proven that these horses have gone virtually unchanged for 250 + years. Proving they are from the orignial stock that the Spanish Conquistadors brought from Spain. Milanne Rehor among others saw that they must be preserved and started to do just that.
On October 23rd Ms. Rehor and Nadine Smith attended a session of the US Congress to discuss the future of the Abaco Barbs. The outcome was certainly good. Recently in several emails from Ms. Rehor, the HOA has learned that the horses are on their way to their own personal preserve.
